All through the summer festivals and gigs have been a platform for artists to express their views on the current state of the world….Trump this, Brexit that. Yeah, it’s important but very now and then we need an escape from the outside world…Thankfully three lads from Manchester gave us just that on Sunday night.

Over the past few years there’s been a new ‘gimmick’ in town for touring artists. Instead of turning up and playing your songs in random order why not play a whole album and round the set off with a few of the good old classics?
Imagine if your band was so popular you could rock into a UK festival and completely take over the main stages. Put up your own branding around the edges, fix some flags around the site…Even DJ at one of the smaller arenas after your headliner performance.
And there it was. The penultimate song of the night. Rarely given daylight nowadays, but when the first few chords vibrate from Greenwood’s guitar any Health and safety officer within a mile radius needs to order a new sound level meter. It happened around a quarter to midnight. Friday night of the festival. And the crowd soaked up every second of the three minutes and fifty six seconds of the blissful treasure sound.
Families in the crowd, thankfully only showing their affection to one another by arms around shoulders and congregations peacefully praying this will be a day to remember are obviously predominately there for the Followill’s and at best most are only familiar with just two or three Pixies tracks.
