A new documentary presented by Dr Alex George in support of BBC’s Children in Need appeal will highlight the growing number of young people struggling with their mental health.
Dr Alex: Our Mental Health Crisis sees the A&E doctor uncovering how mental illnesses are having a dramatic impact on children and the organisations such as SAFA, The Wave Project and YoungMinds offering them support.
The doctor and UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador has a personal story of his own after his 19-year-old brother Llyr took his own life in July 2020 after struggling with anxiety during lockdown.
Dr Alex George said: “I am so proud of this film, and the stories that we have been able to tell thanks to the courage of the young people who have so bravely shared their stories.
These past 18 months have been incredibly hard, and have impacted the lives of so many children and young people, many of whom have been left feeling sad, anxious and alone, but I hope this film brings hope, and shines a light on the remarkable charities and projects across the UK that are making a difference when it is needed most.”
Dr Alex: Our Mental Health Crisis is on BBC One, Sunday November 14 at 10.30pm.
