Selena Gomez has promoted her new make-up range by delving into her past when she was suffering from mental health issues.
The pop star recently announced her Rare Beauty products named after Gomez’s third album, Rare.
Now, in a “good place” the singer has a clearer positive outlook on life and has understood how to connect physical appearances with wellness.
“Society constantly tells us that we’re not enough, so I wanted to start a brand to challenge and eliminate that pressure – to change the conversation,” Gomez told Stellar.
“My goal with Rare Beauty is to break down these unrealistic standards of beauty.
“I saw from personal experience how these impossible beauty standards were having such an effect on my mental health and I know a lot of people who felt the same way.”
During the interview Selena said taking breaks away from social media allowed her time to concentrate on her mental health.
She said: “At Rare Beauty we do social detox weekends often when we encourage our community to log off for the weekend."
In April Gomez appeared on Miley Cyus’ talk show, Bright Minded, where she candidly spoke about how life changed after her diagnosis.
"It was hard, but I tried to find what I needed to get me through it. I have great friends and I see a therapist and keep my mind positive. I've learned so much about myself," she said.
Speaking about her role helping others with their mental health Selina said: "I will always be passionate about that.
"It's something I will continue to talk about."
