Dr Dre has said he “appreciates being alive” after suffering three strokes when he was admitted to hospital in 2021 for a brain aneurysm.

The renowned rapper and producer revealed his health scare during a recent interview which saw him fight for his life for two weeks in intensive care.

Calling it “the worst pain” he had ever encountered, Dre thought he could just  "lay down and take a nap".

But he added: "My son had a female friend that was there and was like, 'No, we need to take you to the hospital.'"

Speaking to James Corden’s show This Life of Mine, Dr Dre, 59, said he was not allowed visitors at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles during the Covid-19 pandemic, but his family were called in when medics thought he had just hours to live.

"They called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was outta here,” the Grammy winner said.

Whilst he was on treatment Dr Dre had to be woken up every hour, but he didn’t eat for two weeks.

When asked if he could have prevented the aneurysm by taking more care of himself, the rapper explained he was in a high risk category.

"High blood pressure in black men, that's just what it is. They call it the silent killer," Dr Dre explained.
