Jillian Mercado’s face is about to be seen by thousands of music lovers, especially those visiting the Beyonce website.
The award winning singer recently asked Jillian to model her official merchandise. Mercado is a model, a blogger…oh and there’s one more thing…she has muscular dystrophy .
In the image Jillian is placed between two girls wearing a jumper reading ‘I twirl on the haters’, Beyonce fans will know that the message is also a lyric from her latest single, ‘Formation’.
Mercado revealed the news via her Instragram page. She posted: “OK LADIES now let’s get in FORMATION!
“So BEYond excited to finally announce that I’m on the official @beyonce website!!!”
Mercado is represented by IMG Models and has already worked on campaigns for Nordstorm and Diesel Jeans. Before her modelling career she studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
In an interview with Vogue last year she said: “I was shocked that I didn’t see anyone in the industry who was like me,
“So when people — girls especially — tell me that I’m their role model, I am taken aback. I love it and it is flattering but it affects me on a very personal level because I remember growing up without having a person I could look to.”
Jillian’s next move is to change a dated term for disabled people who use wheelchairs. Yesterday she tweeted: ‘All this press on my announcement on Beys site is truly surreal & amazing. Now how about we fix that word bound...#learnsomethingneweveryday’
“Wheelchair-bound”? – It’s so out of fashion!
