A new advert has received critical acclaim for featuring a disabled model in their campaign.
In the new ASOS commercial visitors to the fashion brand’s website were introduced to amputee Mama Cax who lost her legs when she was a teenager.
The Haitian-American blogger and model has made quite an impact…especially from Scope!
Speaking to Huffington Post the charity’s head of communications, Richard Lane, said: “There are 13 million disabled people in the UK, but they rarely see their lives reflected in marketing campaigns, the media, in advertising and in popular culture.
“Seeing more disabled people in the media is key to challenging society’s attitudes to disability.”
ASOS also received messages of support on social media with tweets carrying inspirational words such as “You just made many disabled consumers who shop with you smile. Thank you.” And another calling the move a “huge step forward”.
Cax is no stranger to supporting disability in her home city New York, diagnosed with bone and lung cancer when she was 14 the budding model was determined to pursue her fashion career despite the illness taking away her right leg.
In 2016 she had the opportunity to show off her skills to a high profile audience when she strolled down the catwalk at the inaugural White House fashion show.
In 2012 ASOS launched a drama-game show branded as an Internet dating show with backstage drama.
