Sjögren’s syndrome is caused when the immune system attacks secrete fluids such as the tear and saliva glands which can lead to dryness in the eyes and the mouth.

Women usually develop the illness and can experience vaginal dryness. It’s an autoimmune disorder – in other words instead of protecting the body the condition attacks health cells and tissues.

The condition can be either Primary – developing on its own accord or Secondary – developing because of another autoimmune disorder, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lumps.

Sjögrens usually affects those aged between 40 and 60, 90% of the cases are women. There’s a small chance – 5% - those will the illness will go to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma (cancer of the lymph glands.)
