A disabled pensioner has been the victim of a hate crime after she was verbally attacked in a lift when she was shopping in Nottingham during the summer.

The elderly woman, who has cerebral palsy, was confronted by a man in the elevator after she asked him to keep his distance because she was worried about catching the Covid-19 virus.

In response the man reportedly made a derogatory comment about the 72-year-old’s disability, which left her in distress.

Police have now shared an image of the suspected thug from the incident which took place in Nottingham’s Victoria Centre on 28 July.

Inspector Paul Gummer from Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was an appalling incident that caused great upset and distress to the victim.

“We [are] now asking for the public’s help to identify him.”
