A mum is raising awareness about her son’s rare genetic condition after receiving a message from an Instagram follower.
The mother received a message from one of her followers saying the little boy was born with the rare condition.
Samples, 33, told The Independent: “At first I was like: ‘Oh my god, like, what is this?’”
“My biggest fear was that something was wrong with him, that maybe he was in pain with his hair.”
Locklan had dark, baby hair but over a short period of time the top of his head started to resemble peach fuzz.
His mum took him to see a paediatric dermatologist at Emory Hospital in Atlanta where the baby was diagnosed with the condition.
Fortunately it hasn’t caused Katelyn too much bother, she is also mum to three-year-old son Shepherd.
She said: “He kind of wakes up ready to roll.
“If I don’t have to mess with it, I just try not to.”
Samples now wants to raise awareness about the condition and reach out to others living with the symptoms.
“We were like: ‘Let’s share him, let’s share his story, and kind of be a resource for other parents that might find themselves in the same boat that my husband and I were in,’” she said. “Because there’s just not a lot of information out there.”
Locklan Samples is one of only 100 confirmed cases of uncombable hair syndrome in the world.
