Let’s be honest, when it comes to Battle of the Bands competitions it’s unlikely the groups playing in front of their schoolmates will end up performing in front of a crowd of thousands.
Pupils at Colaiste Choilm secondary school were used to seeing schoolmates Steve Garrigan and Mark Prendergast competing in the assembly hall. Now, if any ex-pupils of Colaiste Choilm want a reunion there best bet is to buy tickets for an arena.
Steve and Mark met Vinny May, another resident of their Irish hometown of Swords, the threesome became four when bass player Jason Boland joined in 2012.
Going under the name of 21 Demands, the boys swapped the secondary school competitions for a first class talent show. Finishing as runners ups in the RTE talent show, You’re a Star they released their debut single, “Give Me a Minute” through the networks website.
Changing their name to ‘Kodaline’ the band’s career catapulted when their single “All I Want” became Ferne Cotton’s Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1 in 201. Later that year the band were nominated for the stations Sound of 2013.
The next twelve months saw the release of their debut studio album ‘In a Perfect World’ which contained the hit singles ‘Love Like This’, ‘All I Want’ and ‘High Hopes’.
Kodaline’s second album, ‘Coming Up for Air’ reached No. 4 in the Album Charts in 2014 and the band have recently finished a UK tour…But they have a very special gig coming up next month.
Kodaline are our new ABLE2UK Heroes’ as they will be joining Hozier at the ABLE2UK Concert taking place at The O2 Academy on January 7 2016. A few tickets are still available from the TicketWeb website – wonder if we will see any budding musician’s fom Colaiste Choilm in the crowd taking tips?
