It was a forgone conclusion to whom we should crown the first ever ABLE 2 Hero award to wasn’t it? The title obviously goes to award winning singer/ songwriter Hozier!
Born in the Irish town of Bray the boy who had the name ‘Andrew Hozier-Byrne’ sewn onto the back of his St. Gerald’s School uniform started studying music at Trinity College in Dublin where he joined the university’s orchestra.
Between 2007 and 2012 Andrew was a member of Anúna, an Irish choral group. After touring with the group accross Norway and the Netherlands he ditched his christen name, single barrelled the rest and launched his first EP in 2013.
The EP, ‘Take Me To Church’ gave Hozier his first Number One in Ireland, the track also reached number two in the official charts. The smash-hit single was followed up by his debut self-titled album which included future hits “Someone New” and “From Eden”.
Hozier went on to perform ‘Take Me To Church’ at the 2015 Grammy Awards with Annie Lennox where the track was nominated for ‘Song of the Year’.
Over in the States the acclaimed track has been voted ‘Choice Rock Song’ at the Teen Choice Awards and Billboard’s ‘Top Rock Song’ where Hozier was also named ‘Top Rock Artist’.
Back here in the UK Hozier has recently announced a full UK tour, some of the dates have already sold out – but there’s one extra special night which has been announced today!
Hozier is the first ABLE 2 Hero because...He is headlining the ABLE 2 UK concert on 7 January 2016 at the O2 Academy in Glasgow!!
