A young lad from Bearwood is on his way to being a Paralympian due to his determination and one day could be bringing home a gold medal.v

Zack Sturgess, 13, has autism, cerebral palsy and microduplication 22q11.2, but his disabilities have not held him back.

When he was nine Zack raised £200 for a local school and last weekend he competed in a Paralympic swimming championship after practising in the Swim Bournemouth team.

His next goals are to qualify for the forthcoming classification events, which we are sure he will achieve.

Proud mum Derby told Bournemouth Daily Echo: 'Zack’s dream is getting ever nearer especially after competing at the national junior para-swimming championships in Sunderland last weekend.

“He trains with Swim Bournemouth and his dream is now within reach thanks to his dedicated coach Sharon Abley and the rest of the team at the club who continue to help him achieve his goal even with his physical and mental disabilities.”

She added: “His dream is to represent his country at the Paralympics.”

Zack Sturgess qualified for next month’s pre-Tokyo Paralympic meet, but the event has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
