Disabled Stats.

We have all heard about the appalling racist abuse which seems to never end on the streets of our town centers. It's still not uncommon to read how a woman has been given unfair rights because of her sex and if a gay person ends up with a broken nose it's just another disgraceful stat added to the homophobic attitudes which a percentage of people still have. Yet are you aware of the disabled bullying which goes on? ABLE2UK brings a harrowing report on the unheard of abuse people with disabilities are currently facing which haven't been so widely documented...

You are probably as tired as us when you read another report from yet 'another blooming survey'. They normally contain irrelevant information telling us that JO Bloggs prefers Salt 'n' Vinegar crisps opposed to Cheese 'n' Onion. Or that our girlfriends shop for their lingerie at BHS instead of Marks & Spencer's. Then there's the surveys which have interesting states, but not enough resource which gives them a positive approach. The statics you are about to read come from a detailed survey produced by the Disability Awareness In Action Database and has been compiled by 2 million disabled people. So, you are about to take in some pretty accurate information!

There's been 930 reported cases of violence towards disabled people in the UK which has affected 367,080 people with disabilities. 59% of the cases have been against woman whereon a harrowing 15% have been against children under the age of 16.

Children with brain-damaged have been injected with animal cells from cattle, sheep and even a pig at an undisclosed clinic. Two victims of sexual child abuse have lost their court battle because they had learning difficulties and, therefore couldn't be seen to give enough reliable source in during their trial. From a failed court case to a successful imprisonment when three teenagers were found guilty after rubbing curry powder into the eyes of a family with learning difficulties and the forcing the children to watch their parents have sex. To add even more brutally the teenagers stabbed the father repeatedly with kitchen knives.

For most children school is a valuable source of growing up and education. A Down Syndrome girl was turned away from 20 schools. One teacher even told the parents, Good Lord, we don't take those here. It would hold my girls back." For one autistic child who was fortunate to receive an education it ended physical abuse as they were choked by a special needs teacher. The offender also stood on his pupil's hair and faces and asked a pupil to stand up for punishment - despite the child being wheelchair bound!

Children with other illnesses have also been victimized. A girl with epilepsy was advised to have a padded room so her spasms caused as little harm as possible - she ended up with a 6ftX4ft wooden cage!.

An alarming story come from a father who impregnated his 14 year-old disabled daughter and attempted to kill her by a deliberate car incident on the M6. He survived the crash, his daughter died 5 days later.

This is just a fraction of the cases which have been brought to light circling around human injustice towards people with disabilities. There's little we do for these victims but we feel awareness towards these kind of incidents must be better documented in tabloids, news reports and the Net. How many of these incidents had you heard of before reading this article. The answer, we believe, is very little.
