| JOHNNY ENDS HIS TOUR |
Tonight Borrell has finally matched his accusations which he made a few years ago in the music press. When a tape started recording in an interview it was Johnny Borrell who claimed his band, Razorlight was going to be one of the worlds biggest group. Some believed him, but others doubted these pompous claims. For the nonbelievers seeing a sold out Wembley arena tonight can only make them eat their own words. Disembarking on a 9-Day UK tour the boys have been working harder than ever before and tonight sees the rewarding climax, playing the country's most famous live venue. After a 90 minute hit churning gig selected guests caught a bus from the venue' s car park and were taken further into North London for the end of tour party which opens it's doors at midnight. The late night establishment had closed earlier than usual and disgruntled regulars of the 'Hot Rod' bar in Holloway Road were kicked out at 11pm. The bar resembles the kind of drinking place you would expect to find in South California, maybe careful consideration had gone into choosing the location so it coincide with the band's most recent hit, 'America'. Or maybe it was just the fact that it was a dirt cheap place to hire. With no little pleasures as free drinks and the only food available being a tub of Pringles or bar nuts this was a standard late pub evening which just happened to have a number one album selling band drinking on its premises. Bjorn
and bass player, Carl arrive around 1am along with Johnny's brother, Will
who works closely with the band. Drummer, Andy will be the next band member
to turn up but it's Johnny who attempts to make a showbiz entrance with
his girlfriend after 2 O'clock. Borrell is taken around the side entrance
and quickly makes a swift move to his own booth with a mate in toll and
is then protected by two security guards. We manage a very brief conversation
with him although it's plain to see that the boy is knackered. The party
went on to the early hours with legendary rock and Indie tunes from the
70's to bang up to date being played from the DJ and gave the vibe an
extremely laid back approach. Upon leaving we are told some exclusive news from an extremely reliable source. Plans are afoot for Razorlight to play Earls Court next Spring, maybe even two nights. Where are those who doubted the bands future now? Probably in their cars traveling back from one of the best gigs of the year! |
