POOL COMPETITION

BLIMEY O'RILEY IS AT IT AGAIN!

A few months ago we gave you details on a pretty cool pool tournament being held by the BPPA (British Professional Poolplayers Association) The competition allowed wheelchair users to pitch their wits against each other to win some cash. And guess what? They are doing it again this very weekend and even more remarkable ABLE2UK has even written the story in time! Yes indeedy, when we heard about this event we woke up this morning with a very erect cue and polished our balls - we were that excited!

There's a handsome sum of £140 (based on a field of 16) to be won at this weekends tournament which is being held in Riley's American Pool & Snooker Club in Co. Durham and it all kicks off on Saturday 12th

March at 10.30am when registration starts, the first game starts at noon with the draw being an hour before hand. So if you fancy yourself as the next Alex Higgins or Jimmy White (yes, we know these two are old snooker players, but to be honest our knowledge of professional Pool players is as good as Jordan hopes ever singing in the Eurovision Song Contest!) we suggest you splash out £30 for a damn good weekend. Better still, if you are already a member of the BWPPA (British Wheelchair Professional Poolplayers Association) then you can knock a tenner off the admission price. To become a member it will cost £25 and you can find out more information by clicking on the bpppa website. The tournament will start with a double elimination with the 1st Round a race to 5 then a Winners side race to 7 and a One loss side race to 5. The final round will be a race to 9. To be honest, we haven't a clue what that means and just copied it off the press release, but if you are into pool then hopefully you will have a better understanding then we do! What we do understand is that the Tournament Director's decision is final.

If you are going to attend wear dark trousers, shoes and socks. As even though this is happening up north the organisers still expect you to dress up for it. So that rules out any Newcastle lasses who fancy attending! Mind you, if you are a fit bird up north and fancy popping down to give some support we are quite sure the organisers wouldn't mind!

The nearest hotel is the Travel lodge in Morton Park, Darlington and you can make a booking on 08701 977 300. The next wheelchair tournament at the time going to press will be held Stafford on the 27/28th of August.

If you are entering either of these competitions ABLE2UK wishes you the very best of 'pot' luck!
