PAUL MORRISON

The guy behind F1 Rocks and the reason why so many Scots drink themselves into obvlion every Summer at T in the Park.

The chances are that you haven't got a clue the young chap we are meeting today on the sixth floor of Universal Music's Hammersmith office is. If you brushed passed him on the street you wouldn't think twice and even his name probably won't ring any bells. Unless of course you work in the music industry or you are a festival organiser or for that matter your name is Bernie Ecclestone. The reason for this is quite simple, the gentleman we find ourselves shaken hands with today with the streets of Greater London five stories below us is one of the most respected people in the business, he helps bring sponsorship to outdoor Summer events and his latest project is F1 Rocks working in close relationship with the aforementioned Formula One chief.

Normally Paul would find himself tied up on an important conference call, a thousand miles above ground level flying to an exotic location to secure an all important handshake or working alongside his boss, Lucian Grange the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music Group International who, incidentally has just announced that his future within the company will see him taking helm at a new office located over in Manhattan. But with the prestigious Brit Awards just a few days away the next forty minutes Mr. Morrison finds himself with ABLE2 and about to answer our first set of probing questions before we head over to Sony records to grill another poor music representative. Anyway, enough of the chit-chat, let's get down to business shall we?

Paul, your company within Universal Music is called All The Worlds, but what exactly is your job title and what do you actually do?

It may be easier if I hand you my business card. (The card explains Paul is 'Chief Executive and Chief Creative officer of All The Worlds.) All The Worlds is a division of Universal Music which I was asked to run by Lucian to organise global live music events. Over the past twenty years I have been started such events such as T in the Park, V Festival and Witness, which is now known as Oxygen. It was up to me that the festivals had good sponsorship behind them.

Tell us about F1 Rocks

It's a new deal Universal has with Bernie. The first F1 Rocks was held last year in Singapore and we had great acts such as The Black Eyed Peas. (Others artists on the bill included Beyonce, No Doubt, Simple Minds and ZZ Top.) We are hoping to do four more this season and eventually cover all the cities which host the Formula One races.

How does Bernie Ecclestone compare with Lucian Grange as far as bosses go?

That's a good question. They both work very well together. I have been in the same room as them both and they both are quick to make things happen. I have mutual respect for them both.

What's the best & worst thing about your job?

The best has to be the air miles and creating the festival for 2.0. The worse is that I hate flying!

You were a journalist yourself when you studied at Edinburgh University. Can you give us any tips?

The key is to be brave and follow your convictions to push things forward.

Some people argue that festivals are becoming too commercialised with sponsorship, something which you are heavily involved in - What is your point of view on this?

Festivals nowadays wouldn't be possible without sponsors. There would be no T in the Park without Tennents, no V without Virgin mobile and the Reading festival wouldn't survive without sponsorship either.

Who are your tips for the Brit Awards this year and how are you going to spend the evening itself?

Kasabian, Kasabian, Kasabian! I will be attending the awards at Earls Court and then hoping to spend the night with you at the Universal Party.

That's the best reply I've had a question! Finally I am about to visit Nick Raphael (MD of Epic Records over at Sony.) Do you have a question for him?

Ask him how he manages to stay so young and how he keeps his devilish good looks. Oh, and also how many invites he will give you for the Sony party as well after the Brits!

It's nearly lunchtime and we have to make our way over to Knightsbridge to meet this handsome Nick fella. In a couple of days time we will see just how well Kasabian do at the Brits and we advise you to keep your ears open when it comes to live music events, you never know what may be announced within the next twelve months or so.

The Brit Awards are shown at 8pm, ITV, Tuesday February 16th.
