Britain’s leading theme Alton Towers has always been respected for the way the treat their disabled guests, but after a recent incident the respect could be going down a Black Hole.

It doesn’t take much to figure out 47 year-old Rosie Belhamza has a disability; she only has one leg and suffers from diabetic neuropathy.

Last year Rosie took her nephew to the Staffordshire theme park and after providing her Disability Living Allowance letter the pair received an accessible wristband each allowing them to jump the queues on the parks attractions.

But this year’s visit proved to be much more stressful.

The park demanded a written doctor’s letter proving Mrs. Belhamza had a disability, some GP’s charge upto £50 for this kind of service!

A spokesperson for Alton Towers said: “We are sorry a customer was asked to book an urgent doctor’s appointment and we apologise. We aim to ensure disabled guests are treated with respect.”

It seems the theme park is taking its disabled guests for an extra ride this year, which is a shame as once you arrive at Alton Towers the disabled services are excellent.

I contacted the park through their website as some of the literature regarding disabled facilities was missing (it was being updated, apparently) and I wasn't able to find out about borrowing a wheelchair and whether a doctors letter was required(!).

Still waiting for a response over a month later - not really great customer service.
