So, this weekend sees Super Bowl XLVI, a battle between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Held at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, viewers across the world will be able to witness this mighty match which will no doubt see some helmets being knocked together as the two teams compete for the title.
As you may expert, one of the dangers playing American Football is the fear of concussion, one football league who knows this only too well is the NFL (National Football League) who are currently finding themselves in a lawsuit from retired players.
The league have been criticised for giving their players a lack of knowledge and misled information about the dangers of concussions and head injuries.
As the lawsuits are currently being heard in Miami (and, if the NFL have their way, Philadelphia too) a lawyer from Pope, McGlamry, Kilpatrick, Morrison & Norwood (a civil law firm in the States with a ‘catchy’ title) pre-empt what the NFL would argue with when the lawsuits are raised in court.
According to lawyer Michael McGlamry, who represents about 50 NFL players, the National Football League will argue the case that their players are already covered by their disability benefits, workers’ compensation and the NFL’s 88 Plan.
"I think this is something that you're going to see more and more players become a part of...and I think the general public will be amazed at the numbers of guys that are suffering from these kinds of injuries," he added.
The company who manufacture the players’ helmets, Riddell Inc. are also named as defendants.
You can watch Super Bowl XLVI from the safety of your arm chair this Sunday on BBC1 from 10.55pm.
