Over the years scientists have been trying to come up with a device which could motivate paralysed limbs. The problem which they faced with their geniuses inventions was the size of the bloody things; being to large to implant in the human anatomy.

Fortunately University College London researchers have just revealed that thanks to a small chip their years of research may have paid off and it's all thanks to something they have called an 'Active Book'.

An 'Active Book' is a tiny chip which connects around the spine in the same way pages do in a book, hence the silly name. The chips trigger off electrical impulses to the spine from onboard electronics enabling paralysed limbs to 'turn over a new leaf' and have a spot of exercise.

Andreas Demosthenous led the research and explained the method far better then we ever could...

The work has the potential to stimulate more muscle groups than is currently possible with existing technology because a number of these devices can be implanted into the spinal canal."

The device is set to have its initial studies in 2011.
