Ms WHEELCHAIR

BEAUTY QUEEN STRIPPED OF TITLE

It was Christina Aguilera who sang about how beautiful people are even if they look pig ugly. She had a point as this week Prince Charles ties the knot with Camellia Parker Bowles. So, all the ugly readers of our site take note, there's hope for you yet! The words 'Beautiful' and 'Disability' don't normally go together, as lets face it, most disabled people have had a slight poke from the ugly stick! Yep, we admit we have just made the most controversial statement on a disabled website, but at least we are bloody honest. However, there is a Miss World contest for wheelchair users and some of the entries you probably wouldn't say No to if the opportunity arouse to bend them over their electric handlebars and send them to wheelchair heaven for a good few minutes.

One of this years contenders was Janeal Lee who was a student at Kaukauna High School. Her students raised $1,000 so Lee could afford a trip the national pageant. The work paid off as Lee was crowned Ms Wheelchair Wisconsin and a bunch of flowers were shoved in her smiling face.

However, the smile on Lees face was soon to be wiped off and the flowers watered with her tears when a photo of her appeared in her local paper, The Post-Cresent newspaper. It showed Lee standing up next to her math teacher! Janeal has muscular dystrophy and uses a scooter to travel around her local town, but the photo showed that she can stand and was stripped of her title.

The 30 year old blubbed, "I've been made to feel as if I can't represent the disabled citizens of Wisconsin because I'm not disabled enough" She had planned to go to the national pageant with her little sister, who incidentally also has muscular dystrophy.

Judy Holt is the treasurer of Ms. Wheelchair America and spoke on the behalf of the pageant officials, led by coordinator Gina Hackel. She said,

"Candidates for the crown have to mostly be seen in the public using their wheelchairs or scooters. Otherwise you've got women who are in their
wheelchairs all the time and they get offended if they see someone standing up. We can't have title holders out there walking when they're seen in the public."

Runner up, Micelle Kearney of Milwaukee managed to clutch the title off Lee. Kearney was last seen in a photo climbing Mount Everest with a skipping
rope!

PLEASE NOTE. The photo which accompanies this story is Jillette Rizzo, Ms. Wheelchair America, 2005 and NOT Janeal Lee. Janeal is photo is printed below!!
