GET A BLOODY JOB! Part 1 of our advice for finding employment. Published: 20th October 2009 - 14.02 After the recent news that the Tory party are intending to slash benefit money for disabled people and the rising popularity of Cameron against the declining support Brown is receiving the message is clear. If you have a disability and are able to work; it’s about time you find a job. Of course, it's easier said than done. With the current recession facing many companies to reduce their staff members you may think a step into the real world is impossibility. This isn't necessary the case, work is out there and having a disability could work in your favour. In the first in a short series of motivating articles ABLE2 brings you advice on how you could find a job and stop sponging off the Government and tax payers’ money. First you have to find a job. The easiest way to do this is online. A good starting place is the jobcentre plus pages. If phoning is easier try giving them a call on 0845 6060 234 and if you require a text phone service the number is 0845 6055 255. Most Job Centres have a touch screen machine which, depending on your co-ordination, may make life a little easier. Keep your eye out for the disability symbol (Two Ticks) which indicates the company is willing to make reasonable adaptations to meet your requirements. They are also keen to take disabled people on board. For instance, McDonalds who seem to employ the thickest retards the can find! It goes without saying that you should only apply for jobs which are suitable to your limitations. For instance, if you are a wheelchair user turning up at a house fire in a fireman’s outfit may not go down too well with the burning victims trapped inside. Whist you are waiting it may be an idea to brush up on your skills and register for a course at night school or a similar educational equivalent.
