Apparently
an advertising slogan buried away somewhere on the Internet has described
the chain of 'Jumpin' Jaks' nightclub the 'Best Party In Town'. Further
investigation from your ever faithful ABLE2UK has reason to be believe
that this is completely rubbish. We discovered this when we arrived in
the party capital of the world, Ibiza to bring you our first ever report
compiled outside the UK. To be precise we were at Privilege, the biggest
club in the world - we have no reason to doubt this description!
Manumission takes place each place at the superclub over the holiday season
and this year the organisers experimented with bringing rock and indie
music over to a dance populated island. Views have been mixed where clubbers
who are more used to raving to the likes of Mylo have found themselves
predicating a riot with the Kiaser Chefs and being lucky to see Pete Docherty
actually making an appearance. Docherty and Cocaine Moss were present
on the island whilst we were there having a very quiet, secluded holiday
which was documented in detail on the front pages of the tabloids giving
'The White Island' a different meaning!
For those who had UK jobs to return to (unlike Moss) the closing party
at Manumission was something which could fill a postcard both sides the
next morning. Opening at 1am we managed to wangle ourselves up the steps
at the rear and our facial expressions were matched to Dorethy's when
she woke up in Oz. This was no dream though. We were given a guided tour
around the club which is on three different levels and an observatory
which opens a at dawn so clubbers can share their experiences with new
friends underneath the sky, all very romantic!
There was no love lost for the UK clubs we had left behind and continuing
our tour we made our upstairs past the Privilege VIP balcony and into
the chill out room. A second area saw Chicks On Speed take the decks later
that night, but it was on the main dance floor where the main activity
took place. Fischerspooner had been given the opportunity to close Ibiza
Rocks this year and took to the stage three times during the night.
The entertainment didn't stop there as short but sweet circus acts kept
those who were watching entertained. The DJ booth is situated across a
pool although the sensible Indie kids kept their clothes dry. The price
of drinks probably made sure that only the millionaires felt tipsy!
But, the question is did it work? How was rock music accepted in Ibiza?
Well, plans are afoot in the media world to start promoting a massive
rock festival in Ibiza next year. Groups such as Hard-Fi have already
helped to made a slight dent in the dance capital and Babyshambles played
a second gig at a bar in San Antonio Unfortunly the pop world gave Ibiza
Girls Aloud the same week we were there, but our money is on the rock
scene. 2006 could well see Ibiza being a good substitute for a missed
Glastonbury and we had 'The Best Party In Town'. Sorry Jumpin' Jaks, you've
been beaten hands down on this one!
