GAME OVER?

Musicians campaign for Aspergers sufferer's silly mistake.

Published: 4th March 2010

Back in 2002 Gary McKinnon was bored. Using just his computer for a source of entertainment he managed to waste a few hours, but unlike sensible middle-age men who use their PC's for its proper use, i.e. looking at Porn. Gary decided to hack into 97 American military and NASA computers causing £425,000 ($700,000) worth of damage.

The reason for Gary's hacking espionage's was because he was trying to find extra-terrestrial life. Now, before you start laughing your arse off there is one thing that you should take into consideration, Gary has Aspergers syndrome - A condition which makes sufferers have difficulty making sense of things which happen around them and communicating with other people.

Gary's careless error was spotted a few years ago and in 2006 it was decided that Gary should extradited to the US.

The years which followed saw numerous court cases to defend Gary so that he could stay in the UK because of his condition. In October 2009 Home secretary, Alan Johnson halted proceedings allowing for more time for more medical evidence to be compiled.

A month later the decision was made to send Mr. McKinnon to prison in America. Gary responded saying that he would commit suicide if he was taken out of the United Kingdom.

Upon hearing the news musicians David Gilmore from Pink Floyd and British ambient act The Orb have teamed up to produce a record to raise awareness to Gary's fate.

However if Gary is reading this himself, here's a word of warning. If you decide to download the track, just be careful which web pages you visit this time!
