There's a stack
of things we could list which proves that the UK leads the way compared
to other countries. Cricket for instance, granted it took us bloody years
but at the moment we are the best in the world. And there's loads more
accomplishments we can add to fly to flag for Great Britain, although
nothing at present springs to mind. But still, we must be good at something
beside knocking out a few runs and letting in illegal immigrants. Speaking
of which people from other countries can provide relative useful information
as well which is why the Disabled Living Foundation has decided to support
something called EASTIN.
Even though we haven't a monkeys what it stands for we do know that EASTIN
was started up in 2003 in various countries which include, Denmark, Netherlands,
Italy, Spain and Germany on Monday 24th October the UK was added and was
celebrated by an event hosted by Karen Burk.
Burk is the Minister for Transport and attended the launch held at Portcullis
House, as far as we gathered there were no celebs, free booze or decent
canapés - so we didn't bother inquiring about it! The guests who
DID attend were those from various organisations with a keen interest
in the work EASTIN is doing. Which is the next thing we are about to cover..
Thanks to the World Wide Web the guys behind the site are aware that the
Super Highway can bring informative information from across Europe and
showcase the latest developments in technology which can improve the lives
of people with disabilities.
On their site you can find over 50 thousand gadgets which can provide
support old and disabled people living an independence lifestyle. Others
readers who will benefit include care workers, manufactures and UK suppliers.
Nicole Penn- Symons is the CEO for the Disabled Living Foundation. She
said,
Given the power of the Internet, EASTIN is a very exciting project
allowing the Disabled Living Foundation and its European counterparts
to continue empowering older and disabled people to make well-informed
choices - an essential component of autonomy, independence and dignity.
Also on the EASTIN website is a whole page warning people not to copyright
their logo without their permission. We couldn't really be arsed emailing
the plebs so we have stuck a picture of the poet, Pam Aryes on the top
of this article who has been making people for over 25 years with her
dated sense of humor!
