WEBSIGHT |
Hey lads, we are pretty hot at normal everyday tasks when compared to a woman aren't we? For a start the driver seat in a car has our name written on it and DIY is a foreign language to women. But before we become too smug a recent studies in New Zealand and Britain show that we are more prone to Dyslexia as opposed to woman. Read on..um, if you can... A thousand kids from both countries were plonked in front of a teacher and were given a reading test. The test was carried out and supervised by Dr. Michael Rutter from London's King's College. The kids were aged between 7 and 15. 8%-13% of the girls showed signs of dyslexia which compared quite considerably to the 18% - 22% of the lads. The thing which made these results mean something was the fact that all the children who participated showed no earlier signs of the symptom. Previous studies had included those who had been found with dyslexia and hindered the results. So what does all this experimental rubbish actually mean? Well fret not lads, director of professional services at the National Center for Learning Disabilities, Sheldon Horowitz has commented that despite the Rutter's results it doesn't mean that boys are more crap at reading. He said that girls reading problems may be going unnoticed, "Boys who are sitting in class and not getting it are going to be acting out with greater frequency than girls because that's not 'girl' behavior," Horowitz added, "Girls are more likely to sit quietly and may have verbal skills that make it appear as though they are understanding when they are not." This isn't the first in-depth study to be undertaken examining both sexes who have the disorder. Back in 1990 Yale Uni. organised a similar experiment with 400 kids. The conclusion from the study was that boys were more likely to be placed in special reading classes although there was no substantial difference between girls and boys. Alternately it could mean that more girls watch Sesame Street! Dyslexia only effects reading and writing in most cases and defiantly doesn't mean that the person is thick. Unless your name is John and you went to my Primary school, in that case you were thick as shit as well! |
