THE MUSIC EVENT OF THE YEAR IS COMING

![]() |
In just a matter of weeks the music industry will be back slapping each other, sipping champagne and exchanging important mobile numbers. The Brits are coming and ABLE2UK will be there, 9th February at Earls Court compiling the ultimate report once again. We can hardly contain our excitement and nor could the executive chairman of the BPI, Peter Jamieson. Mr. Jamieson, as we will refer to him (for obvious business reasons!) is on a small stage in front of the UK music media who have just left their offices and made their way down to the basement of London's Park Lane Hotel. Mr. Jamieson doesn't need to read the autocue in front of him, he knows his stuff and he also knows that this years 25th anniversary of the Brits is going to be a huge success and this lies in the hands of the smartly dressed |

ginger hair guy directly in front of him, but more of him later. It's time for the audience to munch quietly on the canapés of bacon on toast, spring rolls, ham & cheese cakes and other posh nibbles as there's a few important announcements to be made and we aren't talking about the position of the fire exits! To be honest even if the room set alight it would be hard to move right now as Katie Melua is on stage accepting a £500,000 cheque from the BPI straight to Save The Children to help those affected in the Tsunami disaster. The Brits awards gives money to music based charities each year, these include Music Therapy and a helping hand towards the Brit School. Some of the students are present tonight huddled inside a cornered off area at the front of a second stage which will see three acts performing after the announcements have finished. We are then shown clips of the past 25 years of the Brits which include film of Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood's famous awful performance, Oasis, rock legends U2, Michael Jackson and not a Jarvis Cocker in sight. All of which have been given the honor of performing at the awards itself. 2005 will see live acts from Natasha & Daniel Beddingfield, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand, Keane, Scissor Sisters, Joss Stone and Pharrell Williams with Snoop Doggy Dog as well as Sir Bob Geldof picking up a lifetime achievement award and there is a whisper that U2 could well be performing. Mr Jamieson commented that choosing the live artists this year wasn't very difficult as four out of five of the best selling albums of 2004 were made in the UK. The only exception was Maroon 5. Showbiz reporter from The Sun, Victoria Newton told us that she believes Franz Ferdinand will wipe most of the awards - does she know something, which we don't? Well not according to Mr. Jamieson.. 'I can assure you, that nobody will know any results of any award until the night itself', he assured the present audience and those watching on ITV2, 'So whatever you read in the press, whatever you read off the Internet is sheer speculation'. Of course he went on to say, 'Except of course ABLE2UK which is the most factual and accurate website I have ever read'. Um, well maybe that was cut from the TV show and just because nobody else heard it, it doesn't mean to say that we are lying - OK? One person who did however make a comment out of our journalist skills was this years' host, Chris Evans.. We were desperate to find out what his plans were after the awards had finished and gave it our best shot, ABLE2UK: 'So Chris what exactly have you got up your sleeve as it's fairly obvious that you are going to return in a big way in 2005?' EVANS: 'No Comment' ABLE2UK: 'So that means you are' EVANS: 'No Comment' ABLE2UK: 'So when you make your comeback is it going to be Radio or TV?' EVANS (Now chuckling): 'You are one of the most dangerous reporters there are.' Chris had a point. As forty minutes we actually did find out from a very reliable source that Chris is making a comeback and told the organisers that he isn't in it for the money. We should say now, that we go back years with Chris and the above conversation was in jest He's one of the nicest ginger wearing glasses person we have ever met. (That should secure us a place on his new show!) Later in the short launch (just two hours long) we caught Chris wowing along to one of the bands playing on the stage in the far right hand side of the hall. Those of you who remember Chris will be aware of his taste in good music. This is the guy who refused to play any pop rubbish from a teeny bopper band on his radio show. However out of the three acts performing at the launch, it wasn't Athlete nor Est'elle which were welcomed by his joyous chants. No, it was McFly! Still, we have to admit that they were pretty damn good and we are closet McFly fans here at ABLE2UK - don't worry, we draw the line at Westlife! We also had a quick chat with bubbly Kate Thornton who will be covering ITV2's coverage from the awards. Kate seemed especially happy at the launch. This could be because she was very excited by the prospect of her involvement at the awards or that she wasn't used to being in the company of people who could actually sing after presenting the X Factor for three months. Don't forget to read our exclusive coverage from the night and before we sign off it's standard procedure to print the full list of nominations, even though every music publication will be doing the same...
