ONE. You are Britain's
most popular and most loved performer, you stole the show at Live8, you
played to a quarter of a million people at Glastonbury, this year you
are one of the first performers at, provided it's build in time, the new
Wembly Stadium and still, just like the latest previous years you are
nominated for just one Brit Award. Robbie Williams must feel cheated as
even Shane Ward is up for an award. Even more controversial whispers filled
the walls of Riverside Studios when the nominations were revealed at the
annual Brit Launch which has turned into a glorious TV recording for ITV2.
Before we follow suit and fill space with the list of nominees allow us
to give you a brief overview of the small party itself. Home to the must
missed TFI Friday studio when Chris Evans was welcomed into your living
room the man himself returned to be interviewed by Sarah Cox who has now
replaced Kate Thornton to cover the Satellite viewing of the awards. Sorry
if it's starting to become confusing - it's just that this writer is as
excited about the awards as much as Charles Kennedy in a Brewery. Talking
about drink and people whose life is going down the dumper Anthony from
Blue was seen having a free drink in the reception area where the cream
of the music industry and press were congregating. Many of them missing
the actual launch which took place in the studio next door.
Picking at a few chicken pieces and miniature Yorkshire Puddings with
beef we professionally went to see the show. Peter Jamison introduced
the night proceedings. Jamison is the head of the BPI, the guys behind
the Brits and making life misery for those who dabble in illegally downloading
tunes to their MP3's. Three bands performed two tracks each, KT Turnstall
(Who is playing at the awards), Kiaser Chiefs (Nominated for 5 awards!)
and The Magic Numbers, who are actually playing the rival NME Award tour
on the night!
The front of the audience was reserved for pupils from the Brit School
and at the end of the recording a pair of lucky winners ended up with
tickets for the awards themselves.
February 15th will see the awards being held at Earls Court and ABLE2UK
will bring our annual exclusive report the day after with news of the
after show parties and anything else we can wangle our way into. This
is always the best night of the year for us and we can't bloody wait.
Already lined up to play are James Blunt, Coldplay, Kiaser Cheifs, KT
Turnstall, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and the winner of the Outstanding
Contribution to music award, Paul Weller. There is also a very strong
rumor that Madonna will join the lineup and that Oasis may make an appearance.
It's now time to copy every single publication and entertainment broadcast
today and list the nominees which we cleverly copied and pasted from the
BRIT Website and then added highlighting and italics. See you next month!..
