| GROW UP! |
When you were a kid how many times did your parents shout at you to 'Grow Up' when you did something wrong? Well, at least 9 year-old Ashley won't hear that annoying rant from her parents because they have given their disabled daughter hormones to stop her growth, whipped away her breasts and made sure she can't give birth to another mistake in the family! Don't get us wrong from that last sentence, the 'mistakes' we are referring to are the parents. After hearing their daughter had static encephalopathy Mum and Dad put their heads together and came up a solution. Before we move on it would help if we briefly explain what static encephaloathy is, as well being a difficult word to keep on writing in this article, static what-you-call-it is a brain disorder which is untreatable, the sufferer cannot move from the position they are placed in. Sadly, as you can imagine, the future for Ashley isn't too good ant to add insult her parents have even given her a nickname, 'Pillow Angel!!' Because she can't move from a pillow! This is only the tip of the iceberg of the parents stupidity... The Seattle family, who understandably are remaining nameless, have stated that her stunted growth will allow them to move her around more easily! Make bathing her more practical and involve her in family activities. Now sorry to come across a bit negative here, but are we correct in saying that every other disabled child/ adult who requires full time assistant 'normal sized'? (Unless of course their disability deflects their growth of course) Thousands of parents cope admirably caring for their disabled offspring's and also thousands of children assistant their disabled parents and relatives. It seems as if the Seattle family are trying to make life easier for 'themselves'. Dr. Douglas Diekema is from Seattle and gave the green light for Ashley's treatment after the parents somehow managed to convince him that it was for her own good. Doug said, "If she were smaller it would be much easier for them to continue to provide a much more personal level of care," Well observed Mr. Diekema!! Your time at the University of Washington is really paying off, isn't it? So, now Dr. Douglas has confirmed that picking up a baby is more easier than picking up an adult somebody who has a bit more sense and lives in the UK has put a more 'gown-up' (No pun intended!) slant on this story. Agnes Fletcher is from the UK's Disability Rights Commission. He said it was an "unnecessary medical treatment to deal with what is essentially a social problem" Alarmingly the treatment started back in 2004 when patches were placed on Ashley's body reducing her height by 20% and her weight by 40%. The next part of this story is quite distressing. The parents even removed their daughter's breast buds and uterus for her 'comfort and safety'. The parents defend this by saying Ashley won't experience the menstrual cycle and the bleeding which comes with it. Or should that be THEY don't want to experience it? Also, the most strange and insane comment the parents have made is just to come. Ready for this?... The removable of Ashleys breasts and uterus is for her own good as it will remove the possibility of her being sexually abused! How the hell can they justify this outburst? When would Ashley ever be left alone? How could she wander off? Unless of course she has irresponsible parents of course! Maybe, just maybe the parents do have a point, will their decision make life better for their daughter? Of course they want the best for her, but have they been too drastic? And as for the sexual abuse comment - sorry, we don't buy that one! They have certainly made their life a tad more easier, but have they taken away what was left of their daughters dignity? |
