Over in Yankee land (America) guys and gals are going mad for a trendy mode of transport called a 'segway'. Pictured on the left you can quite clearly see its pretty handy to use in public places and because it's self balancing, the Segway is very handy for disabled people.

Since the Segway appeared on the market in 2001 the 'Kids in America' and adults have been spunking out $5,000 on the groovy little gadget.

One Segway owner, 42 year-old Dopug Exum is pretty pissed off with Mickey Mouse and his chums at Disney World in Florida. Doug was involved in a bloody big accident a few years ago with left him a quadriplegic, but functions as a paraplegic. He was hoping to travel around the famous theme parks in the Disney resort on his Segway, or to give it's full title - Segway Human Transporter. Although they have now been banned from the park, with or without a disabled driver, even though some Disney employees use them.

The reasons for the ban is, according to spokeswoman Jacquee Polak, 'they haven't been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as medical devices and Disney finds it difficult to accommodate two-wheeled vehicles'

Quite amazing that four-wheeled vehicle's such as pushcahirs and wheelchairs are allowed in then!

The thing is, wheelchairs force disabled people to sit on their arses all day, where a Segway gives more freedom and looks more cooler then a crappy mangled old wheelchair.

Outrage has started with postings on the Segway Website's messegeboard where a writer who was refused entrance on his Segway has claimed that they will spend less cash at the resort.

Carla Vallon, a spokeswoman for Segway has admitted that they are unaware how many were sold to people with disabilities and until they are FDA approved they are unable to market their products specialized for people with disabilities.

FDA approved or not Linda Kilb from the Disability Rights Education & Defence Fund has said that she knew no case law with disability rights and Segway.

So c'mon Disney, change your minds and stop goofy-ing around!
