If you have a disability then you are probably entitled to blag a free car on the motability scheme, but the question is - which car is suitable for you? Unless your name is Jeremy Clarkson this can take ages trying to weigh up the pro and cons against the vehicles on the market. Although one manufacturer is a step ahead of the competition already...

A ?Mobility 4 All? scheme is being organised by Ford manufacturers to make their cars more suitable for drivers with disabilities. Led by engineer Dr. Andrew Paton a group of Ford workers from all over Europe who have various disabilities will test out a range of Ford vehicles and be able to design new models to adapt to their requirements.

Speaking at a recent conference Paton said,

Our major concerns are with getting in and out of the vehicle and stowage
space. For example, larger door apertures and greater opening angles can help those people who have to transfer themselves from a wheelchair to the car seat. Similarly, a lower lip level and larger boot capacity make stowing wheelchairs
easier."

Hopefully more car manufacturers will follow and within a few years all cars will be accessible for anyone wishing to drive.
